About us
BJM Steelworks & Welding opened its doors in April 2018. Well aware that the steelworks market in the Garden Route is blooming and highly competitive. So what were we thinking? Well, we had the two things we are most passionate about in mind: people and steel.
Martiens Bekker, the owner, grew up in his father's workshop, who was a professional boilermaker. From a young age, he was fascinated by the strength and qualities of steel.
Today he runs this small business dedicated to meeting people's needs by providing bespoke steelwork of high quality!

Bakkie Tralies
Easily collapsible for tidy (and tiny!) storage
Boeta's little one loves riding on the back of his dad's Nissan Navara double cab. For safety, Boeta needed a frame and had a few requirements: 1. it must take a canvas cover, 2. he should single-handedly be able to remove the tralies with minimal tools and 3. it should take as little space as possible in his already full garage. What we decided on is a three-panel frame with cross sections on top - meeting all the requirements spot on.
Braai with side table
Stylish, convenient and durable!
"Ons gaan nou braai!"
Made of a 3mm compressor tank, this braai will last you many braais. The wood used on the side table is quality Balau decking. No varnish or treatment ever needed. When collapsed, it is easy to move the braai; even through a single door. We actually have one readily available in stock. Make contact if you are interested. It is a great gift!
Beams
Safe structural steelwork made with precision
Renovations in Fan Court, George required a carrier wall to be removed and therefore the client needed a beam. I went to the structural engineer to do his calculations and supply the architect with the technical requirements for the schedule I-beam. From there on, my job was as easy as following a detailed drawing. Success!
Garden Gate
Design. Build. Install. We do it all!
Mary-Ann wanted a garden gate to help her manage her dog. She sent me a photo of a gate she liked on Pinterest. I made what she liked work in her space and she was more than happy with the final product.
Paramotor Stand
Now it's on. Now it's off.
Hassle free. Tool free. Just like that!
Riaan contacted me after many other companies showed him the door. He flies paramotor for a hobby. Being a man that knows what he wants, he asked for a hassle-free solution to transport his paramotor on any of his vehicles. Including his wife's vehicle where there should be "no smell of petrol next to the kids' bags". I manufactured this stainless steel stand to bolt onto his bicycle rack. It works on any vehicle with a tow hitch.
Canopy Gull wing doors
For convenient camping
Hendro and his daughter love camping. He already had a good setup in his bakkie with a drawer system, water tank etc. But with the standard canopy sliding windows, accessibility is limited... unless you climb in the canopy, which is awkward at the best of times! Luckily there is a solution, with gullwing windows, access is much easier and the canopy conveniently provides worktops. Soon after the instalment Hendro's friend Barry saw it, desired it and got it for himself!
Balcony structure
Galvanised mild steel for durability next to the coast - peace of mind while enjoying the view!
Koos has a beautiful home in Herolds Bay with a spectacular view over the Indian Ocean. But as we all know, the sea brings wind. So he designed the house with a rear North Facing sliding door and we built him the balcony with a Balau deck for those windy days. Overlooking a beautiful green belt, it is still lovely to sit at the back of the house.

Camping Made Easy
Jan isn't a young man anymore and he wanted his camping experience to be more convenient! We made it happen with this customised drawer system. Jan (and his Bull Terrier Dajan) are stoked!
